Included in MIDD's USFS permit is a Dryland Training weekend, the second weekend in December. The past two years we have had snow at that time and we were holding off on using the gorge trail, first waiting on repairs to that section of trail; then letting it settle last year. We will have access to the seasonal roads that make up part of the Sweetwater Challenge system an opportunity to run a 7 mile loop (with options) on these roadways in addition to the trails on LCRT land. NO MOTORIZED QUADS allowed on Forest Service land.

January 22-23, 2011: Sweetwater Challenge #1. This event is staged at the Last Chance Retreat and Trails in Baldwin, MI. This is an assisted, timed, non-competitive, 2-day mid-distance event. It is run on approximately 25 miles of a groomed trial system, most of which is located in the Manistee National Forest. Participants can choose to run the entire trail system or to run increments of about 10 and 15 miles. They can also run the trial system, or portions thereof, more than once for more mileage. This trail system offers some of the most beautiful, remote and challenging dog sledding trails in the lower peninsula of Michigan. It has no year round road crossings and no portions of it are designated as snowmobile trail (which isn't to say you won't ever come across one, but it's pretty close to saying this). The deadline for entry is 12/23/2010 to enter without paying a late entry fee. For the entry form to this event, CLICK HERE.
